Select a niche in which you are interested and you want build your website. Try to narrow down your choice. For e.g. suppose you want to create a website on software download. So, instead of targeting all software download you can select only IPOD software download and keep related software as different category. This way you can get more traffic to your website with less competition. If you target all software download you will get so many competitor in front of you.

Keyword research refers to find out the word which people used in search engine like Google, Yahoo etc. It is not so easy task. You have to find out the keyword related to your niche. I like Google's Keyword Tool most. Its totally free. Results are not the exact result but you will have good idea about the search volume of your keyword.

This is the core of a website. Optimizing means make your website search engine friendly. It is known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I am not an SEO expert. But few tips whatever I know I will share with you.
Few basic tips to optimize your website:-
1. Try to use keyword in the URL. For e.g.: www.IpodReview.com
2. Don't use hyphen or digit in your domain name.
3. Always use .com domain. Also you can consider .net also.
4. Use keyword in the page title. This title is shown in search engine result.
5. Use keyword in meta description. This description is shown in search engine result.
6. Use keyword in header.
7. Use keyword in image Alt attributes but don't make it unrealistic.
8. Use keyword in image Title attributes. It is supported only by IE. Still you can use.
9. Try to save your image using keyword. For e.g. instead of beatmap.jpg you can store as iporeview.jpg
10. Use keyword in anchor link instead of click here.
11. Create one sitemap for your website and submit to search engines.
12. Whenever you are forwarding from one page to another try to use keyword in the URL. For e.g.:
http://IpodReview.com/IpodSoftware.html instead of http://IpodReview.com/Page1.html

So, you will loose your rank in Google. Hosting server's health is very much important for your website.
2. Free web hosting service may shut down at any time and if it does you have to face lots of problem to bring your website back to previous condition. They aren’t reliable.
3. Hosting server speed is very much important. If your page takes too much time to load up in user's browser they may look for another website. Free webs hosting service does not provide speed as much as paid webs hosting. More over with free web hosting service you will be far from many more opportunity.
